I have a new lawn, when should I use my scarifier?

We advise to leave cultivations for at least 12 weeks of vigorous growth and you can see that a mat of thatch is starting to develop on the surface of the soil, below the grass plants. It is important to keep the growth vigorous with fertiliser and water as required until this time.

If you started your lawn with turf, then your grass plants are already a year old and you can start gentle cultivation after 4 weeks in good grass growing conditions.

Top Tips
Keep the mowing height high and reduce gradually to get the roots established and deep.
Do not cultivate (scarify or dethatch) your new sward until it is firmly established.
The roots are young and not deep so the risk of pulling plants out, and damaging delicate roots is too high.
